ROPE IS ROPE??????
It would be interesting to survey mountain climbers and find out how many of them buy their rope at hardware outlets. Yet I have seen more than one forum comment that basically said rope is rope. If one were to take 10 manufacturers 1/2 inch 3 strand nylon white rope brand new, some domestic and some imported and subject each of them to a legitimate break test, there's a good chance no two would be the same.
If you own a boat worth many thousand dollars, don't you think it's worth it to know the rope you use as dock line will keep your boat safe under most predictable conditions. I do. So the question is how do you know? PRICE - not necessarily - I would have to say that a cheap price on a marine rope you never heard of is likely a poor excuse for quality marine rope. Stay away from these.
Reputation can be very important with national and international companies. The vendors selling these ropes may sell the exact same rope at different price points, so do some shopping. Master marine lines tries to keep prices as low as possible because we are the new kids on the block. We are building a reputation as your rope experts with your needs our highest priority. If we use an American dealer you have never heard of, you can trust them. We have checked them out and we know they know what they are doing.
Lastly, rope does not last forever. Tests have shown that well used rope that is five years old has probably lost half of its strength. This is rope that looks good to us ( no substantial frays or damage). We encourage you to be the judge of when to replace the lines on your boat.
