When it comes to sailboats, all things being equal, there are probably a few more types of rope (lines) on board than there are on a power boat - If you have a sailboat, you have halyards, they raise and lower the sails - You also have sheets, they control the trim of the sails - Polyester is the fiber of choice because it has so little stretch it simply keeps the sails where you put them.
